Orlando’s Most Sought-After Villa Resorts — A Curated Guide

You’ve decided on a villa in Orlando. Good call. More space, your own pool, room for everyone to breathe between park days. But now comes the question most people get stuck on: which resort?

Orlando really has dozens of villa resort communities, and from the outside, they can all blur together – private pools, gated entrances, “minutes from Disney.” The difference is in the detail. The resort you choose shapes your entire holiday – how the mornings feel, what the kids do between parks, whether the drive to Magic Kingdom takes eight minutes or twenty-five.

This guide breaks it down honestly. No rankings, no “top pick” badges, but the list of best resorts in Orlando as per amenities, architecture and guest count.  Just a clear look at what each resort actually delivers, and who it suits best.

Why the Resort Matters as Much as the Villa in Orlando

It’s easy to fixate on the villa itself – bedroom count, pool size, whether there’s a games room. Those details matter. But the resort community around it quietly shapes the whole experience.

Some resorts feel like small towns – clubhouse restaurants, water parks, tennis courts, kids running between pools. Others feel residential and calm, where your villa’s private pool is genuinely all you need. Neither is better. It actually depends on your family.

A few things worth thinking about before you finally choose:

  • How far is the drive to Disney’s gates?
The difference between 5 minutes and 25 minutes really adds up across a week, especially with tired children in the back seat.
  • Do you want resort amenities or privacy?
Some families love a buzzing clubhouse pool. Others want gates, quiet, and their own space.
  • Is it gated?
Most Orlando villa resorts are gated communities, but the level of security and exclusivity varies.
  • How old is the resort?
Newer builds tend to have more contemporary interiors as well as better-maintained common areas. Established resorts usually offer proven reliability and a settled community feel.

The right resort removes friction. The wrong one actually creates it – even if the villa itself is beautiful.

Reunion Resort

Best for: Golf lovers, large groups, anyone who wants a premium feel throughout.

Reunion is the one resort that people always mention first, and there’s a reason behind it. It is larger than life – featuring three (3) signature golf courses (designed by Palmer, Nicklaus, and Watson), eleven (11) swimming pools, six (6)  restaurants, and a five-acre water park with a lazy river. It doesn’t feel like a villa community – it feels like a private resort that happens to have private villas in it.

Reunion Resort villas are spacious – having up to 12 bedrooms, which really makes Reunion one of the few places that genuinely works for large multi-generational groups. Definitely, everyone gets their own space, and  nobody sleeps on a sofa bed.

The feel: It is really spread out, established, upscale country club. The grounds are mature, the restaurants are proper sit-down affairs, and there’s a sense of occasion (atmosphere & vibe) about the place. It’s been here long enough that everything runs smoothly.

Worth knowing: Reunion is large. Some villas are a short drive from the clubhouse and water park, not a walk. If walkability matters, ask about villa locations within the resort — it makes a difference.

Disney distance: Roughly 6 miles. A short, easy drive.

Encore Resort at Reunion

Best for: Families who want kids entertained all the time within the resort – water park, sports courts and kids’ clubs

Encore Resort’s location is adjacent to Reunion Resort,  but has its own distinct and unique personality. It’s a new construction, more activity-driven, more open spaces and designed for families who want a full resort experience around their villa stay. The on-site water park is the centerpiece, but there are also sports courts, organized activities, and kids’ activities.

The feel: Active, buzzy, super-modern. The common areas are well-maintained, the interiors lean contemporary, and there’s a sense of everything being within reach – meaning it’s very comfortable. If you want the kids occupied while you sit by the pool with a book, Encore delivers that balance.

Worth knowing: This is a great pick for families with children aged 5–14 who have energy to burn between park days. For very young children or families who prefer quiet, it can feel busy.

Disney distance: Around 7 miles. Straightforward drive.

ChampionsGate Resort

Best for: Multi-family trips where value and space both matter. Also strong for golfers.

ChampionsGate has been a UK-family favourite for years, and the reputation is earned. The Oasis Club is the main draw –  a resort-style pool complex that gives everyone something to do. The villas are spacious, often excellent value at the premium end, and the resort handles large groups well.

The feel: Established and reliable. Not the newest or flashiest, but everything works. There’s a settled quality to ChampionsGate that repeat visitors appreciate –  you know what you’re getting, and it delivers every time.

Worth knowing: Some villas in ChampionGate resort go up to 14 bedrooms, making it one of the best options for multi-family holidays where two or three families are travelling together and splitting costs. Per person, it often works out less than hotel rooms –  with significantly more space.

Disney distance: Around 15 minutes depending on traffic. The route is straightforward.

Solterra Resort

Best for: Families who want a home away from home with Disney proximity in a quiet, gated community that feels residential rather than “resorty.”

Solterra is a different place altogether. It’s a gated community in Davenport with a well-equipped clubhouse (5,000 sq ft pool, lazy river, tennis and volleyball courts), but the overall feel is calm and private. It manifests the core idea – your villa, your pool and your space.

The 5 and 6-bedroom villas here come with private heated pools, generous open living areas, and – in some cases it also features themed bedrooms that really kids lose their minds over.

The feel: Residential, calm, unhurried. You’re not in a resort – you’re in your residential neighbourhood. The clubhouse is there when you want it, but most families love to spend their downtime at their own pool. It’s a great fit for families who actually want peace when they come home from the parks.

Worth knowing: Under 20 minutes to Disney’s gates. Close enough to feel convenient, far enough to feel like a proper escape.

Solara Resort

Best for: Families who wish for ultra-modern design and newer facilities without the highest price tag (budget-friendly affordable villas).

Solara occupies a smart middle ground. Spread over 18-acre grounds, Solar resort is well-kept, the amenities are genuinely luxurious –  5-star (resort pool, fitness centre, splash areas, etc.), and the villas have a contemporary polish that photographs really show well and of course lives even better.

The feel: Clean, modern, well-maintained and fully equipped. There’s an attention to architectural design – the property is highly functional here, which some of the older resorts really lack. This resort is good for families with children of all ages – kids, teenagers or older, groups of couples travelling together, or anyone who appreciates a modern resort full of amenities.

Worth knowing: A strong choice for first-time Orlando visitors who want 100% reassurance that everything will look okay and feel premium at an affordable price. The price point sits below Reunion and Encore but the experience doesn’t feel like even an inch of compromise.

Disney distance: Around 15 minutes.

Storey Lake Resort

Best for: Families with toddlers and young children who require a lively and sociable community.

Storey Lake resort is designed with young families in mind – to keep them entertained and relaxed at the same time. The splash pad and lazy river are ideal for toddlers and kids (little guests). The resort community has a friendly, helpful, warm and sociable atmosphere where families can easily connect.

The feel: Family-centric, welcoming, warm and slightly bustling. It’s the kind of place where kids make friends at the pool and parents swap restaurant recommendations. Less exclusive, more communal –  and for many families, that’s exactly right.

Worth knowing: The location is convenient for grocery runs and restaurant options beyond the resort, which matters when you’re catering to small children with specific tastes and bedtimes. Around 10 minutes to Disney.

Windsor Hills Resort

Best for: Repeat Orlando visitors who value location above everything else, and best fit for families who want a reliable base.

Read it twice – Windsor Hills doesn’t have the flashiest amenities or the newest interiors. What it has is arguably the best location of any Orlando villa resort –  roughly 2 miles from Disney’s gates. That proximity changes the daily rhythm of your holiday – fast and stable. Quick morning starts. Easy afternoon returns for naps. No long drives when everyone’s exhausted after fireworks.

The feel: Comfortable, proven against time, stable and no surprises. The lagoon-style pool and kids’ water area are solid and stood against time, the community is well-established, and the whole experience feels predictable & dependable. Families come back here year after year because it just works like an operational home.

Worth knowing: If your holiday revolves around Disney and you want to minimize drive time, Windsor Hills is hard to beat. The trade-off is just that common area amenities are more modest (far less) than the newer mega-resorts.

How to Choose the Right Resort for Your Family

If the options above still feel like a lot, try this:

  • Travelling with toddlers?
Storey Lake or Solterra. Both are gentle, manageable, and young-family-friendly.
  • Multi-generational group of 10+?
Reunion or ChampionsGate. The villa sizes and shared amenities handle big groups without anyone feeling cramped.
  • First time in Orlando?
Solara or Windsor Hills. Both offer reassurance — Solara through polish, Windsor Hills through location.
  • Want everything on-site?
Encore or Villatel. Built for families who want to leave the resort as little as possible.
  • Golf matters?
    Reunion or ChampionsGate. No contest.
  • Budget-conscious but want quality?
ChampionsGate or Solterra. Strong value without cutting corners.

The honest truth: there’s no single “best” resort. There’s the best resort for you – and that depends on your group size, your children’s ages, what you care about most, and how you like your downtime to feel.

That’s where we come in.
